Belkin Flips for the Mac mini

Belkin has unveiled the Flip for the Mac mini. Flip is the first solution designed to share one monitor, keyboard, and mouse between the Mac mini and a second computer, saving money and desktop space. Flip is ideal for using the Mac mini as a second computer, without the expense or desktop real estate requirements of a second monitor. Flip will be available in North America in early fall 2005 with a suggested retail price of $99.99.
Touch-sensitive buttons make it fast and easy to switch computers, eject a CD, and adjust volume. Connect your speakers to Flip and use them with both computers—without unplugging and reconnecting them each time you switch. Setup is a breeze: Flip requires no additional cables or software for installation.
Flip is the only peripheral switching product that fully supports all Mac keyboards and function keys, including the built-in mouse hub on Mac keyboards. For PC keyboard users, Flip includes touch-sensitive buttons to control volume and eject disks on the Mac mini—function keys that are found only on Mac keyboards.

DVI would be better but I like those audio features.

| I notice it's got two USB out, one marked mouse, the other keyboard. Is it actually a 2-port switched hub, or is it actually doing something special with the keyboard port? That might explain this otherwise inexplicable comment: "Flip is the only peripheral switching product that fully supports all Mac keyboards and function keys, including the built in mouse hub on Mac keyboards. For PC keyboard users, Flip includes touch sensitive buttons to control volume and eject disks on the Mac mini function keys that are found only on Mac keyboards." I've never had any problems using a Mac keyboard... including all Mac function keys... on any dumb USB KVM. |

On the bright side it looks like LaCie and Belkin are getting more involved in manufacturing Mac mini products. It's good to see these mainstream companies get going.
After that being said.
No DVI, what were they thinking!

That's a good question. I bet its just a basic KVM. I would like to see what's on the end of those cables. What plugs into the USB ports on the computers?

All I have to say is that even without DVI support (big oops for Belkin as DVI->VGA converters are easy to find) that is the prettiest KBMA switch I've ever seen.

I have to agree! Those touch sensitive buttons look cool as hell. I wonder if they light up.

Or you can buy the LaCie mini and stick it underneath them.
This is one great looking KVM switch. It would look good with those white hubs they make. Does anyone know when those Belkin hubs are coming out? They were annouced like two months ago. |

I don't know how the underside of the LaCie looks, but if it's anything like the M9 where there's a giant heatsink on the bottom, I would be hesitant to put much of anything underneath it, especially other electronics.
