And will this take up a lot of extra hard drive space.
what I want to do is spend a few hours creating some files and dragging in from my itunes list some cds etc;. easier for me to access through my Pioneer head unit in the car (dont have a flip up touch screen thing !!) |

Playlists do not use any extra space on the iPod at all! |

You can create playlists in several ways, including drag-and-drop of albums or songs, and "smart" playlists where all songs meeting your criteria are included. Criteria include things like genre, artist, album, etc.
Both are easy to use. Try them, or look at iTunes help.
