Apple has released Security Update 2007-002 via Mac OS X's Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, Security Update 2007-002 is recommended for all users and improves the security of the following components: CoreServices, iChat and UserNotificationCenter. The update for Intel-based Mac minis weighs in at 6.6MB and can be found here. The update for PPC-based Mac minis weighs in at 3.8MB and can be found here.
Apple also released the Daylight Saving Time Update for Panther and Tiger. According to the company, the Daylight Saving Time Update for Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server addresses recent changes in the way Daylight Saving Time will be observed in the U.S. and Canada beginning in March 2007 and includes the latest time zone information for the rest of the world.
In addition, Apple released Java for Mac OS X 10.3 Update 5 and Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 5. According to the company, Java for Mac OS X 10.3 Update 5 adds support for the latest Daylight Saving Time (DST) and time zone information as of January 8, 2007. This release updates Java 1.4.2 to version 1.4.2_12 and addresses a problem where some Java applications fail to launch.
Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 5 adds support for the latest Daylight Saving Time (DST) and time zone information as of January 8, 2007, and delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.8 and later. This release updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_07, Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_12 and improves SWT compatibility for J2SE 5.0.

Weird how the intel updates are almost always 50%+ bigger. |

That's because bigger is better!
I'm all good here after installing the updates. But what I want to know is, when are they going to give us the 10.5 update? That's the one I want. |

Maybe Apple just loves to make bloated code? _________________ www.TheRandomOne.co.uk - General random discussion

They'll never "give you" 10.5, because you'll have to buy it.
I hope they release a Core 2 Duo Mac mini (with better GPU?) by the time Leopard and iLife '07 ships. After seeing the speed difference in Handbrake for H.264/AAC encoding (G4 vs Core Duo), I have no choice but to upgrade. |

Core 2 Duo, iLife 07 and Leopard pre-installed. Then I'll buy a new Mini. Plus my pockets are hurting from my recent purchases anyways , they need to recuperate. _________________

Yeah, but it's Universal bloat!
I'm like the rest of you guys. Just waiting on Leopard and iLife 07 to come preinstalled on a headless C2D Mac that costs under $1200. Come on Apple, let's move it already!
Oh yeah, all well on the update front here. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

What are you plans for your PPC mini after you go intel? Are you going to sell it or use it for storage? I have heard of many people going from the PPC mini to the Intel mini. |

I'm sure her mom will give me some money, but that doesn't matter too much for me. All students should have some sort of computer! _________________

I did the update on my 1.42 ghz mini, 1.83 ghz macbook and 1.2 ghz ibook and everything seems fine.
As far as the wait for Ilife 07 and Leapord goes, I would consider an Ilife family pack for my household but don't think I will bother with 10.5. I keep reading everywhere that people are holding off on buying. I can understand this because it saves you $200. Now that apple is doing less frequent OSX updates I think we are going to start to see huge numbers of waiters. _________________ Would you like to learn more about me?

Wow that would suck to not have a computer in high school. I use mine more than I thought I would need to. At least her first computer will be a mac! |
