Gaming on a Mini..?

I'm a PC user currently, I love to play games on my computer, but don't play any extremely GPU strenuous games. Most of the games I play require a 16 or 32mb video card and 256mb of RAM, so I'm wondering, why not just get a mini with 512, and be fine? I play Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and World of Warcraft. Also, if i buy a mini, i will be using a 17" crt. I've heard of problems with crt's, but i guess i'm willing to take the risk...seeing as I'm only 16, and work at a grocery store, I don't really have enough $$$ for 1gb of ram or for a nice LCD monitor.

My 17" CRT works just fine and it's 10 years old.
WOW has been working fine on mini's with 512MB from what I here.

I'm not a gamer, so I would get more feedback.

I downloaded Snood 3.0 Wink

It was the first time the fan really kicked in on my mini. I was suprised that a tetris type game turned that fan on. It's a fun game.

I've heard that all Blizzard games run fine on a Mini at 512mb. I would recommend at lease 1gb if you can afford it. Basically just don't buy extra RAM from Apple when you purchase it and you're already more than halfway to a gig of RAM. 256mb of RAM won't let you play much, so depending on how long it'll take you to get $80-90 to buy a gig stick, you might just be better off going to 512mb.

The CRT issue is a hit or miss thing. It just depends on your CRT. You can always return the mini if you have problems. I wouldn't recommend the Mac mini for diehard gamers. The Mac mini is fine for most games and other day-to-day tasks.

Isn't the CRT thing just a dim display issue. If you had a monitor that wasn't "that" bright couldn't you still use it? Or is it so bad that it's unusable?

I would take you monitor to a Mac dealer and test it, if you have more time than moola right now.

I'm using my Mini with a Gateway VX700 17" CRT. It seems pretty good to me. I think I used the built-in color management software. I forget what it is. It works just fine, though it's a much lower resolution and harder to read than on a nice LCD like on my 15" UXGA+ display.

btw, does anyone know what type of RAM the mini uses from Apple? does apple use it's own brand ram or what? cause if i get 512 now, and go to a gig later, i cud put the 512 into our familie's pc.

yeah, ive heard wow runs decent around 800x600 resolution (which looks pretty decent graphics-wise) on a mini, so when i get my mini ill probly play wow on it, i just hate the monthly charge for it =/ thats why i play warcraft 3 mostly, almost as good.

I just heard the mac mini can even play america's army v2.3, thats seriously unbelieavable, for those of you who don't know it, america's army is a first-person shooter game with a FREE download, its like counter-strike, the us army actually uses it to help train soldiers on what to do in real combat, im really impressed a mini can handle that!

Instead of triple posting, please edit the last post you made.

That's awesome that America's Army works on a Mini, I might have to get in on the action. I loved AA when it was v. 1.2 or so on the PC. It's probably way better now.
