Ecamm Network Announces iChatUSBCam 2.2
Monday, January 29, 2007
Posted by: Brian

Ecamm Network has announced the availability of iChatUSBCam 2.2, the latest version of the company's popular iChatUSBCam plug-in. This release adds support for more Logitech webcams and video devices with multiple inputs. It also includes various fixes and enhancements for existing users. iChatUSBCam is an add-on for iChat AV which allows you to use a USB webcam for video conferencing. It also enables video conferencing on Macs which otherwise fall below Apple's system requirements for conferencing. iChatUSBCam 2.2 is priced at $9.95.

Newbie clarification. First off, I hope Apple comes out with a new iSight because I missed out on buying one before they discontinued it. I have an old Creative webcam sitting in a drawer here that I might be able to use until they come out with a new one. How does iChatUSBCam differ from maccam and IOXperts? I assume they are the drivers and this is the plug-in that allows you to use the camera in iChat. Would that be correct?

IOXperts is the only driver which is able to make a decent picture with my Quick Cam Zoom. I paid for that driver and it is a pity that it does not have iChat support incorporated for which one has to pay as well with the herementioned software. Apple should consider making such drivers readily available, since under XP I can buy hundreds of brands webcams and use them under MSN and such...

Epecially if they stop making their own stand-alone camera.

Did you try the Quick Cam Zoom Mac Drivers from Logitech? I'm curious because I have the same camera, and am using the Logitech drivers with Skype. Just wondering if the IOXperts would give me a better picture with Skype.
