LaCie Unveils Drive for Mac Mini

LaCie introduces a perfect companion for the Apple Mac mini the LaCie mini drive with up to 250GB capacity and either FireWire or USB interfaces. LaCie mini drive can be used to back up the Mac mini hard drive, add storage capacity, or easily transfer files to another computer with the same interface. Its unique four-corner crown fits exactly underneath Mac mini to create a stable, symbiotic harmony.

Now we're talking. I love LaCie products.
It looks beautiful. I like the logo and the matching LED.
Looks like they were smart enough to consider heat transfer. That design would actually help to keep the mini cooler when the drive isn't producing it's own heat.
I wonder if it is using a fan and how quiet it is. I bet this will be the BEST option for a matching external mini drive but it will also be the most expensive. |

What a smart design! I give props to LaCie on this one, even though I bet it will cost an arm and leg.

This's what I'm most excited about. I don't like the front logo much though.
I can't tell from the 123macmini review, but is it a hub also? It doesn't sound like it is, just that it comes in two versions that connect through either FireWire or USB2.0.

I think it just has a single passthrough to daisy chain another firewire device.
I know what you guys mean by the ugly logo thing. However LaCies logo is more of a status symbol. It looks like it's cut right out of the aluminum. Which would be really cool (and handy for catching dust  )
I hope they come out with a burner in this design with Toast Titanium and Litescribe. |

Even pricey for a LaCie enclosure... that's almost as much as I paid for my Porsche Design 160GB drive... though I notice they're listing the PD 80G for the same price as the 80G, so maybe we'll see this discounted some in teh stores.
I like the cooling support, too.

i dont know what the hell im going to do. what enclosure to purchase.
its 200 bucks with the 250gb in it right?
what kind of drives are usually in lacie drives? and do they usually have that "smartpower" function the ministack had?
must say im a bit disappointed it not being a hub although that extra firewire port may just be enough for me. |

| I don't like the logo either. They don't put a logo on the front of the Porsche Design case, it's a little one on the side. They should do the same here. |

I don't think the prices are bad, and the design is wicked cool. These are $20-$30 cheaper than miniStacks and miniMates in the same capacities. It doesn't seem like these have a hub, so maybe there's your $20-$30 savings. I'm not crazy about the Lacie logo on the front, although, I've seen worse. I was going to buy the miniStack, but now I'm confused what one to buy.  |

If you could find that person who was trying to colormatch the aluminum color with paint and find out the color you could use Bondo(I think this is the brand name) to fill in the logo and then paint over it.

A USB/FW hub is easily that much, and mine keeps getting pulled off the back of my desk by my keyboard cable. |
