|
|
Hi
I've installed Myth TV in Debian on my mac mini but I don't have any video capture hardware. Does anyone know of any suitable video capture hardware that has linux ppc drivers and will work in Myth TV? It doesn't look like any of the Elgato hardware is supported.
I don't really want to have a separate backend PC as it wouldn't look good in my living room
Thanks. |

Well, you could use a PC based on the Nano-ITX form factor created by VIA and then use that with MythTV. This is not a suitable option because it neuters the poor box.
Frankly, if popular hardware like Elgato isn't supported, I don't know if you'll find any. _________________ Computer Engineer

| Yeah, I'm coming to the conclusion that there isn't anything suitable for the mac. Don't understand what you mean about the neutering the nano-itx though? |

I have the MythTV front end installed on my mini and am working on a separate server box... I really dont think a mini has the horsepower to capture and encode the amount of data a capture card can dish out.. plus for a mini it would have to be usb or firewire and if you would likely have a usb or firewire external drive to store the large amount of data required by capturing tv so there would be lots of data transfer going on thru the usb and firewire and that would be tremendously slow given full cpu usage... those are at least my thoughts _________________ Computational Media Major Student @ Georgia Tech

I don't think it would be a problem to store the data on a 7200rpm drive. You'd run into problems trying this on the Mini's 4200. I think that the Mini would be working hard trying to decode and encode this data as well as shuffling that data around, but I think it could handle it. Frankly, I would be suprised if it couldn't.
About HD content, though, I don't think the Mini could do more than 720p, possibly not even that. If it's SD, you're definitely fine. _________________ Computer Engineer
