|
|
Today I added a 1 gig stick of Kingston memory to my Mini, and I also hooked up a Firewire 300G Maxtor One Touch II.
I moved most of my apps to the faster drive.
There is a VERY noticable increase in speed, in everything I do.
Very nice....Garage Band is awesome now, and Safari is much quicker. So is iPhoto and iTunes.
BUT....the Dantz Retrospect Express won't work with Tiger.
I went to their website and downloaded a newer version, but no it asks for a serial number that I don't have.
Any ideas?
Should I re-install the version that came on the Maxtor install disk? Is there a solution?
Thanks |

First of all, did you buy this software separately or was it bundled with the drive? If you bought it separately, return it and buy the newer version.
Second, if it was bundled, call Maxtor and ask them for the newer version, or a serial number, since it doesn't work with Tiger, though they may refuse support for this product on Tiger.
Third, did you download an entirely new version or a patch? There might be a patch for whatever version you have to make it work with Tiger. If there is, get that. _________________ Computer Engineer

It was bundled.
It had an error when trying to backup.
I downloaded an update, but it asks for a serial number, and I'll be damned, but I see no serial on any of my docs.
No biggie, but I thought I could make it work somehow.
Right now, I'm just happy with the upgrade. |

Okay, try to find the About window for that software. It should present you with information about it that *might* include the serial number, though this would only work if you were running the version that came with the drive.
I would say reinstall the software so it doesn't have the update and then check the program's information to see if it tells you the serial. _________________ Computer Engineer

I said screw it, and downloaded SuperDuper.
It backed up everything to my 300gig Firewire drive, and rebooted to it, and its works perfect.
I just let it default to the new boot drive, leaving my original HD as a backup.
Exactly what I wanted.
Thanks for you help anyway, as usual!

Glad to hear you figured it allout. From now on, I'll recommend SuperDuper and only SuperDuper. Man that sounds like a stain remover brand. _________________ Computer Engineer

I'll have to make sure and bookmark this guy's website. Looks like he is doing a lot of great software development for the OS X platform. (as a fledgling cocoa programmer myself, I like to see people having success in this area) _________________ -=iMav=-

The cloning of my HD to the external FW drive went flawlessly.
The interface is clean and straightforward.
I will be "upgrading" to the full version of SuperDuper that has many more options besides just cloning or full backups. |

| I like SuperDuper better than CC. CC is still having issues with Tiger. |
