It could be a nice alternative to 23" Apple Cinema display. Not sure of pricing yet.

You are at the edge on the mini' s video capabilitiesat that size. "The Dell unit offers a native resolution of 1920x1200" I've read on these forums some people are having problems 20" Dells. But man that's a pretty sweet display for the money and you know there will be some coupon codes around soon.

Apple Mini Video Tech Specs
"DVI video output for digital resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports non-coherent digital displays up to 135MHz "

That would be SWEET. However, I think my 19" Westinghouse will have to do for now...

Good link Bubba! At $1199 that's a darn good price. I bet in two months it will be $999 if not sooner. Mr. Green

Seriously though.. Expose lags a little on a 19". 32MB is not suitable for something like this.

No way the mini will push that monster, at least untill they upgrade the video.

This Apple thread explains some issues.

I'm not sure why you'd think the mini could not drive this monitor. I've been using it for months now with my mini and have no problems whatsoever.

My Apple dealer said the mini has not issues driving the 23" Cinema display either. That may have just been text.

Anthony,
Have you ran video at that resolution?

Hi,

Yes - the monitor runs 1920 x 1200 just fine. I plugged it in and the mini was automatically driving it at that resolution (I checked in the Monitors sytem prefs section).

I'm not a major gamer or anything but for everyday use the mini drives the Dell 24" beautifully. Plus it's a great value IMO.

Another thing that interests me about the Dell. Is the multiple video inputs. The picture in picture feature. I'm wondering if you hooked up a satellite receiver/digital cable box etc. How good it would work for watching t.v. while surfing etc. Can you resize the t.v. window? I can't see how when the video source is from an independent signal.

I haven't hooked up multiple sources, sorry. My computer is the only thing connected to it. Sorry I can't be more help there.

Well this monster is going for $1120 CDN or $917US + shipping. This deal is on Dell Canada's site, and goes until July 14. That's 42% cheaper than the 23" Cinema display. With higher specs and way more features.

I'm going to wait and see if anything interesting is released at Macworld Boston. If nothing comes out. I'll likely be ordering the Dell 24" on July 14th.

Nothing from Apple will be released in Boston; Apple will not be attending.

Also, Dell's are routinely cheaper than the corresponding Apple one. They can be up to 60% cheaper or more depending on what model, etc. For that difference, you'd need to be using Dell's coupons or special offers. As we know, Apple is good enough where they don't need to offer deals, so that's why there's such a difference.

As for resizing the TV frame, it would make sense that you could do that with two independent sources. With one signal, it would be pretty hard to do PIP and PBP (whatever that is).
