| I am going to save up for this, and hopefully get it in July. Is this the new iPod also? Steve jobs said on the Keynote that he was announcing 3 new products, but not all seperate. |

That was more marketing and showmanship than anything. I'm sure there will be a separate 6G iPod similar in widescreen format, just sans phone and internet in due time. _________________

| I agree to make people buy a phone to get an iPod would be impractical. |

Especially at the capacities that the iPhone offers - 8GB isn't going to get a lot of people very far.
I already have the money for the iPhone, seeing as Apple Cinema Displays didn't come out on Tuesday.... and the money is burning a hole in my pocket! Hmmm, 23-24" ACD or iPhone and iTV.... 23-24" ACD or iPhone and iTV.... that's a toughie!
Does anyone know if the iPhone can stream video from iTunes libraries like the tv does?

If it is a touch widescreen and then has a 40GB and 100GB capacity, I'd probably get that over the phone. _________________

first apple chooses cingular now if any one has ever had a cingular phone know how bad they are they have issues connecting or worse second the phone is limited still on how much video it can hold
so this still doesn't do anything for anyone its just another overpriced piece of junk |

Like any other product or service, different people have different experiences based on their particular situation.
Case in point, I have Cingular, with a Sony Ericsson phone. At home, I have zero problems with it. Call clarity is crystal clear, I never drop calls, and I always have a 75% or better signal.
When I visit my girlfriend's parents in San Diego, I have a horrible experience. Calls are muddled, noisy, and frequently drop.
My girlfriend's parents have Verizon. In San Diego, they have just as good of an experience as I do with Cingular at home, but when they travel here, it's hell for them.
Different areas give very different quality based on provider.
Also, sometimes the product, not the service can be the problem. My sister dropped her phone and broke it recently, so it was replaced using her phone's insurance. Her new phone is an identical model to her old one, yet calls are much clearer, and the speakerphone is actually usable (the old one's mic used to pick up it's own speaker, causing a horrible hum and echoes). Same exact phone model, same exact service.
Saying "product/service XXX is bad" is a sweeping statement without much merit unless you've explored at least a few different situations.
It's like the old "I flew American Airlines once, and they lost my luggage once, therefore 100% of the time they're bad" logic. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

I love the idea of the iPhone. But am I the only one who wants it without the phone? The iPDA? I would guess that the vast majority of PDAs are sold without a phone built in.
To simply have an OSX PDA would be awesome! And a lot cheaper! |

| I am not with Cingular. Do you think in the future they will go with Verizon and other comanies? And can you just buy the iPhone and not have the phone and service right away? |

I don't think so. I believe you *have* to join Cingular if you are not a member. If you already are, then you have to extend your contract another 2 years. _________________

Plus Verizon uses a completely different system, using CDMA/TDMA while Cingular uses GSM. Like for the RAZR, it'll take a special version of the iPhone to work with Verizon. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external
