I bought an iPod dock, so I could keep my iPod Nano charged, listen to it at work, and still be able to see the screen at a good viewing angle. Of course, the audio output is line-out, so the volume control on the Nano is ineffective, and the volume is too loud at least on some songs. And, being a Nano, the jack on the iPod itself isn't accessible while docked.
Any suggestions on good inline volume controls? So far all I've found are a couple of "headphone splitters" where each jack has a volume control. That'll work, but a simple inline volume control (not full remote control) is all I really need. Of course, I could upgrade the headphones to ones that include a volume control, too, but I like the buds.

So far the best solution seems to be a $9 volume control cable from Radio Shack. I don't actually have it yet, but will soon.

The $7.99 Radio Shack dongle works fine. At least with my music connection and Nano the line-out volume is high enough that reducing it with the volume control (there's no amplifier) is all I need.
