Apple Unveils iPhone
Tuesday, January 9, 2007
Posted by: Glenn
Apple today introduced iPhone, combining three products—a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, searching and maps—into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting users control iPhone with just their fingers. iPhone also ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.
“iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device—our fingers—and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.”

I hope that screen doesn't get scratch up as easily as it does on my 5G. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Should add to the bullet of being Cingular only. _________________

| I'm not overly impressed with my initial feelings on the design. I'm sure it will grow on me. I felt the same way when I first saw the current iMac's. |

is this like a pocket pc type thing, or just iTunes music & movie playing? Might not be too bad, if I could watch movies, play tunes, take calls, do calendar, and control my mac mini HTPC.
yummy. _________________ 1.42 | 1GB | 80GB

Not just an iTunes music & movie thing. It does almost everything. _________________

I think it looks fantastic. If it works as well as I've read/seen it'll be great.
Unfortunatley, I don't think I'll be having one due to cost.....though they're not out in Europe till Q4 |

I view this a lot like the original iPod. When it first came out, it was pricey, Mac only, and Firewire. As time went on, the features improved, the cost came way down, and it became more approachable, offering USB and Windows compatibility.
To me, the iPhone being pricey, Cingular (or at least GSM) only, etc, is just the first revision of a future dominating product.
I'm looking forward to this, but I'm not going to save my pennies for one at least for a few years. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

The look is already starting to grow on me. Head on it looks plain (as most Apple products do). Once you see a few of the angles it looks very nice (as most Apple products do) |

It does look very plain and simple, until the screen is on.
I just wonder how hard it will be to unlock it, since it is tied specifically to Cingular. _________________

The whole time he was talking about it, I kept saying ... please also release one with an 8" screen, please also release one with an 8" screen, ...
What a waste of good OS X software. This would make for a great tablet. $500+, Cingular only with a 2 year contract. Forget it!
Who does he think is going to buy this? The nice thing about Treos is that you can pass them off as a business device and companies will shell out the $$$ for them. Corporate sales is where a lot of the high end phone sales come from. I don't see this catching on as a corporate device. |

I think you are totally wrong.
I think this phone will have a very "cool" factor. The fact that it will be pricey will add to its appeal. For those that it doesn't appeal to... don't buy it. |
