I hear ya! Hell, I've used a new disk for an actual coaster. I think the lesson here is, don't be an early adopter when it comes to this kind of stuff. |

Yeah that would be bad. I'm in the same boat as Bandit Bill. I bought 200 DVD-Rs for $30, so far only 2 were bad. Then again that was because I accidently dropped them on concrete and scratched the hell out of em. But I would care on some expensive BD-Rs. _________________

| These are really cool new products. What caught my eye were the speakers and the Blu-ray burner. Why are they so dang expensive? Is it that much better? |

Totally unfound... you can look back at previous threads were everyone sings praises about LaCie drives. |
I have owned three LaCie drives in my life (one being the original LaCie mini) and none of them have failed on me. That being said, there are quite a few unhappy campers (see Amazon) with the d2 hard drive. It scared me right into looking at the WD My Books. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

I got a Lacie HD for the Mini for Christmas. What I really wish Lacie would come out with in the very near future is a DVD burner in a similar style. I'm afraid my Mini and Lacie drive would look kind of funny atop Lacie's current d2 DVD drive
Does anyone know (or even just suspect) that Lacie may announce one soon? _________________ Mac Mini 1.42Ghz/512MB, 80GB HD, (the 'middle' one)

I got the 250 gig one that is made to have the mini sit atop. Looks real nice and seems to work great. I don't use it as the boot drive, just for data storage.
I E-mailed Lacie about the possibility of a matching DVD drive and received a response that they do not have any plans to do so at this time. Bummer. _________________ Mac Mini 1.42Ghz/512MB, 80GB HD, (the 'middle' one)

Rich, can you confirm whether you model has a fan?
From what I understand the of the V2 models (with the hub) only the 250GB model does NOT have a fan. |

Not having a fan=quieter
Not having a fan=hotter
So there are both advantages and disadvantages of having a fan. Right? |

I'm guessing that LaCie is excited about Leopard (specifically, Time Machine). That's going to have a lot of people looking for external storage me thinks. _________________ -=iMav=-

I've not noticed it heating up too much, but keep in mind I only use mine for data storage, not as the boot drive.
And yes it is very quiet. _________________ Mac Mini 1.42Ghz/512MB, 80GB HD, (the 'middle' one)

Thanks Rich. I'm glad you like the drive. It is the V2 model with the built in hub, right? |
