Tuesday, December 19, 2006
Posted by: Brian
Apple has released Security Update 2006-008 via Mac OS X's Software Update utility and on the Web. According to the company, Security Update 2006-008 is recommended for all users and improves the security of the following components: Quartz Composer and QuickTime for Java. The update for Intel-based Macs can be found here. The update for PPC-based Macs can be found here. Both weigh in at under 2MB and require Mac OS X 10.4.8.

| All good on my G4. Even though I was little thrown off when I saw it being described as Universal. |

When I installed it via Software Update it indicated that a PPC version was being installed. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Strange... It seemed to install fine, asked to reboot as usual, but when it was rebooting it got stuck on a blue screen with that little wheel spinning around. After 10 mins I just turned the mini off and on again, and now everything is fine. _________________ PPC Mac Mini User

I don't know what's going on with some of these updates, but the restarts are getting mad long. 10.4.8 and Security Update 2006-007 took a really long time. This one was average for me.

After mine had downloaded and installed. It went to restart but got stuck with the desktop picture. Everything else was gone, menu bar, icons, etc. But it was frozen. I wasn't running anything else during the process. So I tried to turn off the Mini by pressing the button. That did absolutely nothing. So after I went to the store and came back, it was still stuck. So I hated to do it, but I just pulled the power. Now everything is running fine and the update is in there. _________________

Booting up did not take that much longer than normal, but this morning I found my Finder stalled, did not show my external drives anymore, so had to restart them. _________________ ___________________Jim©

Did it go back to normal afterwards? _________________
