I am considering getting a miniStack for my Mini. Here is the question:

I am using a external Maxtor 300GB Onetouch. It goes to sleep and the drive disapears from the desktop and from Finder. The only way to get it back is to shut the drive and turn it on again. OS X yells at me and says that I shoud eject the drive, yada-yada....

Will the ministack do that too. I dont want to get this as a replacment boot drive and have it going to sleep improperly. If its a boot drive will it operate the same as the one in the mini?

What cables do you need to connect to the ministack? I assume just USB, FW and power. Is there a 4" usb and FW cable avaliable?[/code]

You should go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > and uncheck put the hard disk"s" to sleep when possible box. That might solve your problem with the Maxtor drive. I'm not sure about the small cables. Doesn't the drive come with them?

You might want to check.

The mini stack comes with cables that are like 15". Way too long to position one on top of the other.

15" shouldn't be that bad. My miniMate has 7" and 9" white cables. Actually the little longer cables may be better if you ever want to stack them side by side. The miniMate's cables aren't long enough if you want to position them side-by-side.
