What are you using this for? You need an imic to plug in regular microphones because the mini doesn't have a mic port only headphones and line in. _________________

I believe Futa is correct. The Mac Mini uses a Line-In input, which requires the microphone to either be self powered or hooked through some sort of amplifier.
USB options exist, which can take unpowered microphone input. Griffin's iMic is one such device, but there's lots out there. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Thanks a lot
however it's a little annoying that you have to use 1000 USB devices to get close to normal functionlity... |

I can plug my guitar straight into the line in of my macbook and record without a hardware preamp of any kind.
However, the other day at practice I tried to plug a regular mic in (sure sm58) and got nothing! In the end i went into system prefs and turned up the input volume, and the track's recording level in garageband and I got a tiny bit of a level, but not nearly enough for even the rough recording I wanted to do.
So I think that a usb or firewire audio interface is the only way. sorry _________________ mac mini 1.66ghz. 1.25gb 60gb HD

Do not forget to check "Sound" in System Preferences to make sure you choosed the right configuration.
I got an usb microphone, I thought it would not work but after choosing the right configuration it was fine on my Mac Mini.
I am writing now on my ibook and I cannot tell you exactly, if I remember well in Output and Input you have to choose the usb option. |

I've also got a USB mic, as part of the Sennheiser headphone and mic.
Now..... I had to plug the USB AND the headphone jack in the output port of mac mini.
Isn't it possibile to plug JUST the USB AND hear everythong from there?
Isn't full duplex?
I mean. It woks but it's not a neat solution...
Suggestions, guys? |

If your headset has more than just a USB connection, I would think that you have to hook up all connections. I have a Logitech USB headset and it only has a USB connection. I can select it in most audio menus (Skype,System Preferences, QT and many others that have selectable audio in or out.)
Hope this helps.

Thanks, but... no.
It didn't help.
The apparel has just one usb plug.
Fot the headset the cable go to normal connectors (audio and mic) and THEN to the USB via a converter..... |

what happens if you just plug the USB into a USB port? Without the converter for audio in/out. Mine shows up in system preferences as a selectable audio in and out. If yours does not, I imagine it's not Mac compatible.
