Macessity Intros Power Grip Bracket for Mac mini
Monday, November 13, 2006
Macessity today announced the release of its Power Grip Bracket for Mac mini. According to the company, "Cable management under a busy working desk top may consist of answering two questions: Where do I hide the power brick? And how can I tuck away the power cord? The solution: Power Grip Bracket. Not only does it allow you to mount your Mac mini's power brick under your desk, but the Power Grip Bracket also has a built-in coil tabs for you to wrap excess cable nice and neat, leaving just enough to reach your machine." The Power Grip Bracket is made out of galvanized steel and measures 4"W x 4"L x 2.25"H. It is priced at $5.99.

I have both a PPC and an Intel power brick, and they're physically the same size. There's also no mention of "for Intel Mac mini power brick only" in the product description.
As for the Power Grip Bracket itself, no comments.  |

| Good idea. Seems like a no-brainer, considering Apple puts coil tabs on the laptop power supplies. I suppose they thought desktops don't need them. |

One of the "less positive things" of the MacMini is the fact if you want to connect a large array of extra items, like extra HD's, DVDrw's, there are so many extra cables and power supplies! I thing this is a first stepfor cable and powerbrick management. I stil have to figure out a neat way to manage my cables under my desk better, if I did not still want to change things from time to time...

I have 3(!) smaller power supplies sitting on top of the Apple power brick! Another few are sticking out of the Master/Slave power strip and some are on the other side of the power strip. it's a mess!

My Mac mini power supply is installed underneat my desk, there's three power supplies for the M9-DX/miniStack v2/Maxelerate behind my monitor and there's a "wall-wart" for my wireless hub in my power bar. I'm not sure if there's not another power brick somewhere on my desk, there's so many cables that one might be underneat that and I just don't see it. Quite a mess... |

Picture a (metal?) rail which would be screwed to the back of a desk - something like the adjustable display rails used in shops.
On this rail 5-6 pairs of either adjustable clamps to hold power bricks or if possible, holders of a universal size which power bricks would slide into an be held.
'Hanging' from each pair would be double sided thingy to wind cables around (because each brick has two cables coming from it)
Include a "hook" on each end which we would hang power boards from.
Make the rail adjustable for length (sliding into itself) and you could buy however many "clamps" you needed and that would fit many needs.
I'll buy that... |

Those things already exist, but usually for professional officedesks and belonging to those (expensive) desks
