Then again, why on Earth would you go for black? That's $200 for a simple color change! Send you machine to a professional paintshop and they will paint the outer case (very well, I might add) for only $100, and that even allows for dozens of colors.

I think the $200 isn't the most horrible thing I've seen.

Sure if you want a good paint job, you would probably have to send it to either ColorWarePC or some other place. ColorWarePC does an excellent job with painting MacBooks. I've seen one in person. But they cost an arm and a leg!

I'm not sure what engineering apps you might use in school. I am a EE, and have started using SciPy at home and at work as a replacement for Matlab. If you enjoy programming in general, which is a good skill even for a EE major, Python and SciPy seem like some good scripting languages to pickup.

Just something to consider!!
