Project: Mac mini Cube

There are mods, and then there are really nice mods. I think Anthony's Mac mini Cube might just be the best Mac mini-based mod you will ever see. Anthony, better known as khisayruou in the forums, has been keeping me updated on the project for the last few weeks. He just sent me the final details, along with a ton of great pictures for your viewing pleasure.
Anthony writes, "My inspiration for this project came from the Fifth Avenue Apple Store and the recently released black Macbook. I wanted to recreate the G4 Cube as if Apple had never discontinued it and make it into a true media center. I did not want to simply put the "guts" of an Intel Mac mini inside and "dress it up", but to refresh the Cube and create something that could stand out. Here are my confessions of the project, enjoy...

Very very nice. Almost perfect in my book. A matter of fact... I'm quite jealous. I love the Cubes form... and the new Intel machine being on the inside makes it nearly 100% perfect.
You picked the right color! _________________

WOW. That is a beautiful build. Big props from me for a very clear walkthrough, and a very nice job. _________________ MacBook Pro 1.83GHz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD, Dell 802.11n card, 1.4TB external

Wow this guy seems like an engineering genius!
I wish apple made something like this only a little bigger, maybe if the clear bottom part wasn't clear and house more components and the design was a bit more accessible, that'd be incredible.
But it's hats off the to creator of that! |

You can change your Cube to a MiniPowerd machine this way.
But you will destroy your Cube, there is no way back.
I think you may choose an easier way to meet Cubes beauty and MacMinis power. And you may return to the Cube or upgrade without any trouble.

that is amazing! Did I read correctly that it has a full sized hdd in it?
You seem to get some mods that look really good, and some which are really techincally impressive. It is so much rarer to see one which does both so well!
Hats well and truly off. _________________ mac mini coreduo 1.66ghz. 1.25gb 60gb HD

| Wow nice job! I didn't see anything mentioned about where the IR receiver for the remote was routed. Did I miss something? |

Good work, I really like the black!
The only thing I ever hated about the Cube was the visible cabling. That and the price. |

One of the things that impresses me more than anything else is that most of this mod was done with standard off-the-shelf tools. It takes quite a bit of planning with little room for error. You only have one canvas (your Cube) to work on. If you screw up, your mod turns into more of an impressionist piece of art. _________________ -Jh |
