Apple logo made out of Mac mini boxes

What do you get with a little creativity and 65 Mac mini boxes? You get one of the world's most expensive Apple logos. "A few months ago we got a bunch of Intel Mac minis (Intel Core Solo). We got 64 for automation and some others for testers to use. When I saw the pile of boxes sitting in the hall to be recycled, I knew I had to save them. We piled them into my office knowing that there would be something I could do with them, but I just didn't know what or when. A few weeks later, it hit me. I opened up OmniGraffle and sketched out the plan," writes Daivd Weiss on his blog. Ok, I'm like 63 boxes short, but you've got to start somewhere.

It might take up a little more room, but I'd like to see the Mac Pro version of this done. One of you rich guys must have $165,000 laying around. Wink Laughing

I love the boxes. Who wants to do one with 128 mac minis? Like, 128 mac minis is so much cooler than boxes!

I like it, but I have a silly little question. Has anyone ever thrown away their Mac mini box? If you've decided to keep it, where's it at? Is it on display or in the closet? I know from the gallery here that some people seem to showcase them with their setup. By the way, mine's in the closet.

Mine is in my closet. It has an extra aluminum Mac Mini top housing in it. Along with my old internal disc drive. I also had my old stick of RAM in it, but ended up installing that into the eMac. I would have also put my old hard drive in it too, but I got an 2.5" external enclosure for the old drive.

Though I do keep my Mac Mini "tools" in it. Putty knife, precision screw drivers and other assorted tools.

Funny thing. I was looking around for a putty knife one day and totally forgot that it was in my G4's box. I searched the around the house everywhere and couldn't find it, so I ended up getting another one at Lowes. I finally realized it was there when the Intel minis came out and wanted to compare their DVI to VGA adapters. It was like Christmas! Laughing

I do that all the time. I got various shoe boxes in which I store rarely used or broken things in for the future. I can pretty much store anything in them since they are for size 15 shoes! I was digging in one of the boxes to find an old PS2 slimline my cousin gave me. The only thing wrong with it, is the laser assembly went dead. So I replaced it for $30 and have a working slim PS2, though I still don't use it! lol

You could probably store a Mac Pro in those boxes. Wink

Yep, I lose stuff all the time. I was happy when I found that putty knife though. I had it sanded down to a nice sharp point and it came in handy for upgrading my Intel mini.

Yet another for the closet. My closet is like electronic box heaven. Most boxes somehow find their way in there, and send up sticking. But the Mac Mini box is the crown jewel. Laughing
