Yes, I did say that I got me a brand new mini! I just installed it yesterday and it's great! It's still not connected to the internet though because I have no idea how to do all that router crap. Does anybody know? The PC in the other room has DSL and the mini is in my room. How can I get DSL on both of them? Well, thanks for everything guys and suddenly I don't think I need 512MB of RAM anymore. I mean 256MB isn't all that great, but it's suitable for what I do. Thanks again for all of the advice and I'll post a setup pic later. |

Congrats!
Did you get an Airport Extreme card? If so buy a wireless router. |

Welcome to mac. I guess I'm not the new guy anymore.
To get you on the internet you need:
1. DSL or cable modem. I prefer the cable - I hate the phone company and I use Vonage.
2. Connect the DSL modem to a router. This gives you several ports with wich to plug in different computers. Unless you have a DSL router with either a wired or wireless router. Most do not have this feature. Not shure??? Take a look at the modem...does it have an antenna yes it has wireless. Take a look at the modem...does it have several ports that say computer, it has a switch. a switch is not a router but it will work.
3. Connect the mac to the router via a ethernet cable. Dont want to run a cable to the bedroom? Use wireless!
4. If you dont have a router or wireless router here is what u need to get:
For wired:
router (get one with a firewall and learn how to use it, just read the manual)
Long ethernet cable
For wireless:
Wireless router to connect to DSL
Wireless router to connect to Mini. I suggest the wireless card at $100 installed at the mac store.
You can get wireless routers for as little as $30. |

Sorry for the image sizes in advance...
First, make sure your router is setup to assign IP address (act as a DHCP server):
Connect your mini to the router and...
Hope that helps! |

I can't think of any reason for someone not to invest a measly $35 to double their memory in a mini. Even the most basic tasks will benifit. Plus if you sell the 256mb stick to me for $10, it will only cost you $25 to upgrade |

I agree - 256MB is going to be painful, even if you're just running basic tasks. You may even want ot skip over 512MB and get a 1GB stick. You can pick up a 1GB stick for around $80.
