Why would they, That would require too many resources for apple to extend for very little gain. The move to intel processors was purely for the fact that G5's weren't offering any significant improvements. Intel was. AMD isn't offering much that intel offers that would necessitate modifying their entire product line again. |

Not a chance, at least in the short term. Apple is Intel's darling right now, and Apple is milking that for all it's worth.

The only benefit I would see out of AMD... is a Mac Mini back to $499.
Though I think adding another type of processor would just confuse a Mac consumer.
They are staying with Intel, because as of right now.. Intel has the higher performing and power saving chips. Which is key to Apple for the market it has the biggest percentage of sales in, notebooks. Plus Intel is showing they can innovate to stay competitive (performance and even price wise) with AMD (which is something they were lacking for a while).

I was alwas a bit more of a AMD person than a Intel person, but who cares: I am a Mac person now!

I find it's always a war. Nobody leads the chips race for more than a few months.
What's more important to me than price/performance is stability/compatibility. |

And heat. The move away from IBM was precipitated, in part, by the fact that they could not make faster processors that didn't run too hot, especially for laptops and computers such as the Mini. And, as one report states, "The infamous image of the missing 3GHz PowerMac behind Jobs on stage certainly made it seem like Big Blue couldn't get the job done." It's not nice to embarrass Mr. Jobs.
