You're getting a second processor for the price of the single processor model, that's not bad but I agree people expected more.
I think this is giving Apple a chance to delineate the entry desktop (Mini) and the more expensive desktop (iMac).

| What should they have done? I thought the cord duo was the latest. I also noticed that everything else has been upgraded, except, I think the laptops. Maybe for an old PC user, these apples are too confusing, apple has not changed it marketing for the past 15 years. They love to play games... |

Why should they? Because the (old) iMac was a higher spec than the (old) Mini. They want to segment the market and fill the available spaces.
Apple are playing with Intel now and Intel decide what gets made and what is dropped.

I don't really see any games being played, they speed bumped the entry level offering and did a major refresh on the iMac. Very likely we'll see the MacBook Pros get Core 2 Duo at MacWorld, more options for the Mac Pro and either at MacWorld 2007 or WWDC 2007 we'll see the mini and MacBooks get Core 2 Duo.
Apple has a desirable product with the mini and they know it, but don't expect them to sacrifice a higher dollar sale of an iMac any time soon. Apple has always been about keeping customers engaged and making money from their hardware. There is never a loss leader in the Apple line up and they have no need or desire to bottom out prices and fight with HP and Dell, I don't know why this escapes people.

| Just what is the difference between a core duo and a core 2 duo? Do you think that in a few days they might do some for modifications to the mini? |

The core 2 duo is the nexvt generation version of the Core Duo processors. And no, i doubt that apple is going to do anything more with the mini's after the slight processor update |

Yea, I doubt anything will happen to the mini real soon after todays bump, maybe Core2 Duo after MacWorld, but who can say for sure. I would bet by next spring Core2 Duo is across the whole line (with the exception of the Pro obviously).
Thanks to Intel this is the first time in several years that Apple can draw distinct lines between products and their target audience, should make for somewhat less exciting product announcements.
And what is up with new products on a Wednesday?

| Can we expect to see a core 2 duo 2.33mhz verison of a mac mini next year when Leopard is released ? A 250GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM as standard would be good or is this pushing things too far given the size and extra heat generated etc ? |

I think there will be something with the mini when the itv will be released...and so is my question? do the specialists of this sit still advise to buy the current mac mini or advise to wait 2007? I'm in the case and hesitate a bit... I need a mini to put in my living room (mostly for MP3, photos and internet (no video for the moment) but the itv announcement is confusing me... |

iTV is not a replament for any PC, it is a set top box. If you need a PC now the current mini line up is very solid.

iTV is not a replament for any PC, it is a set top box. If you need a PC now the current mini line up is very solid. |
that's what I think but I like the rca outputs on itv (I do not have an optical input in my stereo leaving me with an mini jack rca option to get the sound out of a mini) seen that I'm gonna use mostly itunes with lossless...
on the other hand ITV only willl provide neither itunes on my tv screen nor internet so it forces me anyway to get a mini also...but who knows how faster will be the mini at that time (anyway do I need anything faster for MP3, photos and internet?) |

Even if you get the iTV, it will stream the music/videos. Therefor it will have some sort of buffer for the data. I have an AirPort Express.. and it doesn't stream my music very well.. even for being 6 feet away from my Mini...
