Who do you all use for web hosting services? I am looking for something cheap and reliable, preferably under $8-10 per month.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

I just switched to BlueHost.com! In my research they seemed to have the most bang (Speed, storage, and available plugin software) for the buck ($6.95) and they have been around for awhile!

I use Invision (the forum people). Probably not the cheapest, but great service and uptime.

Anyone heard of A Small Orange? The folks at macrumors.com rave about them.

For years I hosted my server on my home connection (DSL and T1's). A couple of years ago, I rented a dedicated server from HiVelocity. I have to say that I had minimal issues with them and have no trouble recommending them.

(I have since gotten a deal on free colo from a friend of a friend that runs a datacenter in Indianapolis...but that is another story) Smile

That's a good option for sure, but check with your ISP first. A lot of them specifically prohibit hosting in their terms of service. I know a lot of the cable companies don't officially allow it.

Yeah...I don't think my own server is an option. I'd rather just pay a host.

It's going to be a web site for a small nonprofit...

Check out http://machighway.com I use them for my home account and I also manage a non-profit website. I will be moving the NP to Machighway. I've been paying attention to the uptime/downtime issues between my home host and NP host and my home is much better. I've been happy with the pricing, support and update with Machighway. At least worth checking out for your needs.

Reviving a 6+ year old thread. Impressive. Wink

I still host my own equipment at a datacenter down in Indianapolis. I've had to upgrade the hardware many times over the past few years due to the growing popularity of one of my online communities (geekhack.org). In fact, I'm headed down there later this week to do a forklift upgrade of my entire hosted environment.

Back in the hayday of this site (hoping for a resurgence), I really held this place up as the model of what I wanted to achieve in a successful, online community.
