Hi all... I just wanted to post some info for all those who regret not getting the Airport/Bluetooth option. I ordered the Airport Extreme/Bluetooth kit (Apple Part Number M9870Z/A) from costcentral.com. They have over 50+ in stock, and only charge $93.16 (+ $10.00 FedEx Ground... other shipping options available).

I ordered it this afternoon and it's already scheduled to be delivered tomorrow! Not bad! The kid comes with everything needed... INCLUDING the mezzanine board, Airport card, Bluetooth module and antenas.

They were very friendly and had it at the lowest price I could find.... heck.. it's a STEAL considering Apple wants $99 for the Airport card ALONE usually.

Here's the link:

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Apple_Computer_MAC_MINI_AIRPORT_EXTREME_UPGRAD_KIT/M9870ZA/F98728/

enjoy!!!

Hey cool... I was just shopping for that kinda thing this weekend, and couldn't find a good solution.

Nice first post, jmatero! Thanks!

Give us a review on the install and your experience with the kit. I'm sure there will be a few people interested.

I have a couple of questions... The upgrade kit that Apple sells has an airport card? or I have to buy it? and... How can I order one from Apple store? `cause I can΄t find it in the web site.. should I call my apple service center in my country?

Here's an idea: next time get your mini with what you want on it. You'll save money in the long run.

Mine was purchased for me at work.. didn't have the option... and it didn't cost me more money to do the airport/bt... same price... plus, you can't build it with a 8x dual layer dvd and a 7200rpm drive

Sometimes situations change. Wink

When I bought my Mini, I had a room all to myself for my stuff. Didn't need wireless since I sat right next to the router.

Now my wife is pregnant, and has informed me that my computer room is now the baby's room, and I should prepare to be evicted. Wireless suddenly might be a necessity.

So I'm interested in jmatero's installation experience with the kit. I'd rather have the Apple internal card than resort to a wireless ethernet bridge...

Since when was this thread about upgrading the dvd drive and hard drive?

If work purchased it for me, then I wouldn't spend any of my own money on upgrades. If I purchased it myself, I would get it fully loaded as you will end up getting more for it on a resell (just like a car, a house, etc).

Bubba don't be a dog Wink

When I purchased mine, the retail store had only one left without superdrive or airport and BT.

I purchased it since I did not want to wait weeks for a special order from apple store or other retailer.

I added RAM, 99€ for 1Go, instead of 220€ (more at the time) through apple store,
and the Airport BT for 100€ instead of 115€ at the time (100€ now) I think through apple store.

I saved Time, Money, and had fun installing it.

If you don't like this idea, good for you, I respect this but I don't understand what you could say against this idea.

All the best,
olivier

My apple service told me they would charge me US$ 22 for the installation of the kit... is it worth? or should I give it a try and do it myself??

Let them do it for $22! So you're going to get AE/Bluetooth installed for $122?

it is really easy to do.
biggest problem is to open and even more to close the mini.

if you are confident with a screwdriver and capable of following documents, there is a way to do it. it takes 5 minutes.

there is on the net the apple pdf document explaining the steps.

if you never opened a computer, just go for the 22$

I bought my wifi/bt kit from local apple store for 99$ less 10% student discount(i brought my kid along). at first they said that they had to install it but I insisted that I didn't need them to do it plus I didn't have machine with me. So, $89.10 plus tax out the door.

Also why buy it preconfigured from apple with upgrades? when you can upgrade it yourself with much better equiptment for less money.
