I decided to test my Mini out and see how it measured up to other Minis running at 1.42ghz with 512mb of ram. I used Xbench to do the test and ran it several times to get the best picture possable. First I logged out of my account on the computer and logged back in. I made sure that I didn't have any visable running programs and then started the test. The resulting score was 104.4! Not real good. I then logged off again and then logged back in but this time I held down the shift key to disable all underlaying programs. I then ran Xbench again and the result was much better with a score of 120.39. I then repeated these test twice more with and without the programs disabled at login. The scores held pretty true to the first sets that I ran with scores of 118.79 and 119.64 with everything disabled and 106.24 and 105.62 without disabling the programs. Now the question is what numbers are the true numbers and which ones do you use as the true example of speed?

If you're just trying to tune your Mini, then you should be benchmarking it in as close to a normal state as possible. So that's probably running xBench straight after a normal boot.

Also, logging out and logging back in won't be the best way to get a "clean slate", as the various caches on your machine might be helping the later tests run faster. You should always go with a restart before the test.

I've run several xbench since getting my mini and it consistently hovers around 120 on a 1.42 with 512mb RAM. I just ran one before writing this and it was 119.82. I always run xbench after booting.

I agree. That will definetly give you the best baseline. I just mentioned on another post how it'd be nice to see the XBench site add a Mac mini section. It would really help us out!
