DeLorean Mac Mini
Monday, June 5, 2006
Ryan Brandys has started a website showing how he installed a Mac mini into his 1981 DeLorean DMC-12. "I have always wanted to put a Macintosh-based computer into my DeLorean. Today, you can read about how I made that a reality. This project involved more than just a carputer. This is the merging of an automotive environment and a computing environment. This creates a portable office in your DeLorean. Not just a drive-in movie theater, but a drivable drive-in movie theater. Sound like fun? It is, but challenges along the way have made this ambitious project push the limits on my electronic and fabrication talents," writes Ryan.
What truly makes this install so unique is how Ryan is using a Proxima video projector to project the Mac mini's video onto the inside of the car's hood. He also built a really nice custom dock out of fiberglass to hold the Mac mini.
Ryan also posted a video of his setup in action. You can see it here.

This has got to be one of the best Mac/car integration mods I have ever seen! He really put a lot of thought into how to put it all together and really put a lot of time and effort into making sure it was done right! Amazing!!! _________________ 13' Macbook 2.0ghz C2D w/2gb RAM and 120gb HD

The worlds first mobile Drive-in Theater! It wouldn't be very practical when you're cruising down the highway at 65 mph, but it sure looks cool sitting still. |

THIS MAN, RIGHT NOW HAS JUST WON 5 AWARDS
1. World's coolest mod. Ever.
2. World's most useless mod. Ever.
3. World's biggest nerd. Ever.
4. World's ugliest shirt. (wtf is with that tie-dye thing?) Ever.
4. World's second best use of a DeLorean.
But the buring question I have is....
...where is the Flux Capacitor? |

The iFlux code hasn't gone universal yet.
I'm holding out for a Mr. Fusion. _________________ 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

You certainly won't make it up to 88 MPH with Rosetta. |

That's awesome I always liked the style of DeLoreans anyway and the mini just kind of fits in with the whole look
Now I want a stainless steel case for my mini... _________________ Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz / 1GB / 80GB

lol.
You guys should do a 123macmini awards show. This guy would sweep it, although the 'World's Best Use of a DeLorean' category might not be flooded with nominees.
I think I'd roll a minified hybrid if I had the time/money/nerd hit points, maybe the new Civic. I probably couldn't fit anything in the hood, though. Fuel Cell DeLorean too theee fuuuuture! _________________ 'You can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself' - something my Dad used to tell me (from an old song) |

| Im sorry, and generally im not so negative but, who cares? A mac mini in a car. Whats the big deal. I wanna see true integration. An lcd in the dash, a keyboard in the dash, a wireless range extender. Mapquest on your console when you need it. Itunes integration. Come on, this is the 21st century. The mac mini in this car would be better served in an inner city classroom, at least someone could use word. |

The last time I went into a school for IT work (they needed "help") they had a ton of new computers, 5 servers and a dedicated NOC - for a school of 600 kids. Crap, I have 300 people on one NetWare box. They get tons of money for IT and p*ss it all away, all of the "administrative" staff had 23" Apple monitors...if money is such an issue, why p*ss away it all for "management".
All the money in the world isn't going to fix schools. |
