Besides the price, of course.
I need to decide whether to buy a 17 LCD from any other brand or save and get the Apple 20 (it´ll take me till xmas)

What´s the big deal about apple LCD monitors besides they´re so stylish and elegant??

Outstanding picture quality and viewing angles and a 16ms responce time pretty good for 20". You pretty much get what you pay for. I'd love to be able to afford one! Very Happy

Stylish, elegant, and consistent.

Apple displays use the same LCD panels as some pc LCD monitors. For example, the Apple 20" uses the same LG Philips LCD panel as the Dell 2005fpw. Most other Apple panels are Samsungs, I think, that can also be found in some PC monitors, if you look.

The advantage to buying Apple is that you know you'll get a good quality display, and it'll be stylish and elegant.

You can save some money buying a PC LCD. But you have to research which ones the good ones are, because there are a lot of mediocre or bad ones out there. And the display won't match your Mac. It won't be as aesthetically pleasing.

Apple is the safe, elegant buy. A PC monitor is the value buy.

Samsung makes some really nice displays. You might want to look for a display with dual VGA and DVI inputs this way you could hook your mini up the the DVI and the PC up to the VGA. You get a better pictures that way instead of going through a KVM.

One bad thing about Apple Cinema Displays is they don't swivel.

Hmmmm...
For now, I think I´ll just buy some cheap 15 LCD (or use some CRT old pc display), you know... to play around with my future mac mini. And I´ll save for an Apple display. The wait will be long though. Sad

anandtech did a review comparing dell and apple's LCDs

http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2400

the dell (esp the stand) is not very attractive..but hard to beat the price-and the quality is very nice.

I think the panel manufacturers for the Dells varies. I have a Dell 1905fp which is a Samsung panel. Its an excellent display for Mini, especially since it comes with a built-in 2-port USB hub.

the apple display might be better but i don't think it is 200% better. most of the price difference would appear to go to pay for the fruity logo on the bezel.

Do you own anything from Apple? You seem very negative towards the company! Confused
