It's a battery gone bad. Or they just had a problem with the circuitry in the battery, I had a portable DVD player that had an externl battery that gave out and got really hot, this was after 20 monthes of owning it, so I opened the battery pack and the temperature module was fried black on the connectors, so it had only so long before the dead end was treated as a overheat signal and would shut down. Also that lithium overloading crap is just that crap, a bad lithium pack was probably in there and so the others compensate by overloading the circuits and then the heat sensors could burn out or overload and no longer limit the batteries heat output leading to extreme heats. Well anyway what a shame and they might have kept the laptop too if they took out the battery first with something like and oven mitt, but look at the video they now have a either an IBM or n HP laptop that only runs Windblows.

I'm not buying this story. The laptop is open on the carpet, it catches on fire, and these people's reaction is to pick up a flaming laptop, take it outside, grab the camera, and film it?

That stretches credibilty to its breaking point.

The woman is quoted as saying that she was worried her house would burn down. Well, maybe you should try to put the fire out? Geez. That's a natural reaction, unless you are looking for an easy lawsuit. And the headline is misleading, because there's been no recall of the Apple battery involved.

I call BS. Major BS.

Again take out the battery if it was just hot like they said in the video. I like my HP since the battery is in the back and somewhat big.
