I'm looking forward to the iLife series, but I had a chance to get Final Cut Express for $100. Just wondering if anyone has tried to use it on a Mini.

If not, I'll report back myself in two weeks (I hope).

I would love to own Final Cut Express. Where did you get it for 100 bucks? My only suggestion is max out the memory!

I got my hands on Final Cut Express 1.0 & bought the upgrade from Apple. First I thought I'd call the Apple Store & get indignant about the wait & see if they'd sell me Final Cut Express for $99 bucks (pre-holiday price for purchasers of new Macs). But then a friend had an unregistered FCE 1 & I'm planning on using it. Pretty pathetic: FCE HD upgrade shipped overnight, but I've got two more weeks before the computer arrives! I'll have the Getting Started guide memorized by then.

Not at all. This will be my first Mac. I've been using various Windows packages all of which are buggy, awkward & severly limited. Not that I haven't produced decent results: it's just a lot of work & options are limited. Final Cut Express will probably be overkill for my needs, but it will be great to have to more options than I know what to do with!

If the Mini lives up to my expectations, I'll probably be shopping for a G5 this fall.

Glad to hear it! I've got my kids setup with minis, but I have yet to play with one in depth as of yet. (I DID have to write a few AppleScript, uhhh, scripts to automate loading of cd images for their games.) Looking forward to getting MY mini!!

(same as you...if I am impressed with OS X, I will probably buy a pimpin' G5 towards the end of the year) Smile

Sorry. I just saw this. 512MB installed by Apple. I bought the faster 80GB model. Only issue is creating DVDs. 60 minute DVD took three plus hours to create & burn. Comparing the price of a Mini and G5 PowerMac, I don't mind the wait!

Encoding to MPEG-2 is what takes most of the time, unfortunately.
(the mini's laptop HD probably doesn't help either)
