Alrighty!

4 weeks and about $1000 later, I have success!

Senario:
I needed to split the audio and video outputs from my Mac Mini. One high quality set to feed into my plasma and amp. The other to feed via RCA into a modulator box (my house is 'smartwired' allowing me to display anything that is plugged into modulator on any TV around the house).

Cost me $179 AUD. This little piece of magic allows me to output analog and digital (optical) signal AT THE SAME TIME. Supports Mac OSX. You may need to download universal driver from the website for Intel Mac Mini. Clear instuctions are given on how to set up. Simultaneous output of stereo (RCA) and Dolby 5.1 (3.5mm optical). One goes into modulator and other goes in amp for Dolby surround.

Cost me $437 AUD + $14.50 delivery. Allows you to input VGA signal and will convert to Composite and/or S-Video OR Component. I am running composite into my modulator. It supports ANY resolution upto and including 1600 x 1200. I needed to run at 1280 x 768 and it does it fine. The desktop looks like crap but watching HDTV (I have EyeTV), DVD or downloaded movies (Front Row) is quite acceptable. The better the output you use, the better the result (I am using the worst, composite).

I used the DVI to VGA converter then a VGA splitter cable ($15 AUD). One feed straight into plasma and the other into this box.

I ordered it yesterday after lunch (about 2:00 PM Melbourne time) and it arrived at 9:05 AM in Perth the next day.

YAY!!
