| I was told by someone that when you run windows on the mac it dosent know when to turn the fan on so it the mac may over heat is that true?? has anyone else heard this? i cant verify it via internet... Thanks |

| Bootcamp has drivers for the fans, when the hacked copy of windows (the one that was made by the guys who got 13 grand) would not ahve the fans turn on. Bootcamp has drivers to support all the hardware in your mac and safely run windows. |

So there is no hardware issue thats runnign windows would cause??

The whole fan driver thing was a big big misunderstanding by a guy with a MacBook Pro that put XP on it with the old method, not Boot Camp, and thought it got really hot when in reality it got no hotter than OS X. He also couldn't tell if the fan was running or not. My friend researched this quite a bit when he put XP on his MBP.

I've got Windows Media Center running on my Mac Mini. Everything seems to work very well except for the fan noise. When recording a television show, the fan spins up on the Mini and gets really loud. I can understand that the CPU is working harder and writes are happening frequently (almost constantly) because of the recording.
Do you know if anyone else has run into this issue, and if so, how they solved it? The fan is so loud it's probably not going to be usable as a Media Center PC at this point.

I've run into this on my Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook with Fusion HDTV Gold USB tuner and BeyondTV4. Recording only isn't a problem, but for watching LiveTV, I have to reboot right before to make sure as few processes as possible are running. When the notebook starts getting hot, the cpu starts scaling back its speed, which drives cpu utilization up, occasionally to 100%, which pretty much locks everything up.
An external hard drive would help because that's the hottest part of the notebook bottom. Plugging the tuner into a powered external USB hub also helped.
