Difusi Mac Mini Accessories
Monday August 22, 2005
Difusi today announced its new miniCase, a high-end, top-grain leather and Jacquard-nylon carrying case. The case has been designed exclusively for Apple Computer's new Mac mini and 12-inch PowerBook platforms. Difusi is currently working on other Mac mini accessories including the Bay mini a fully powered 6 port USB 2.0, 4-port Firewire and audio expansion bay with Bright-Strobe-Concert lighting. The Drive mini, Disk mini, Power mini, Stand mini and Dock mini round out the lineup of accessories.
The miniCase is jam-packed with features, it comes with over padded top-grain glove leather on all handles and carrying straps, main body of the carrying case, rugged zippers with padded leather pulls, as well as Jacquard nylon as a secondary material that has been chosen because of its durability and great looks. The case has six main compartments for carrying your mini or PowerBook, cables, accessories, documents, CDs, DVD movies, digital cameras and much more.
The cases were designed with Apple's look and feel in mind, from Black leather and Jacquard nylon exterior with reflective light-grey nylon interior, an internal lighting array with 12-Volt, eight 8 super bright white LED's in a custom, removable fixture, finished with a clear anodized aluminum housing to provide lighting for items in the case, items that may have fallen on the floor or items that need a lot of illumination.
"Difusi, has held a long tradition of introducing high-quality and functional devices and accessories for the Mac platform," said Mike Wright, Difusi CEO, founder and director of product development. "This next phase of Difusi products takes our experience of bringing exceptional quality into the Mac market and truly integrates some amazing technologies to help differentiate our offerings from all of the other vendors in an increasingly crowded market segment."
The miniCase will be available through select retailers, online distributors and from Difusi's online store this fall. All parties pre-ordering the miniCase will get a 40% discount off the suggested retail price of $129. There is no information on the availability or pricing for the other Mac mini accessories at this time.

I don't know all the details. Charles talked to Difusi two months ago. To generalize the Bright-Strobe-Concert lighting it built into the Bay mini's circuit board and will change the Bay mini's color. LEDs go around the circuit board to give off the light. You can control all this in OS X.
Bright - A system preference pane enabling electronic color lighting control.
Strobe - The API enabling pattern and gradient diffusion of light nodes built into each difusi case deign.
Concert - A visualizer interface for use with Apple Computer's iTunesâ„¢ to enable Audio based pattern recognition and light interactivity with iTunesâ„¢ Music Playlists. _________________ Brian

Finally - one with ports in front as we've been looking for. But no built in hard drive? Dang...so close, yet....

"The API enabling pattern and gradient diffusion of light nodes built into each difusi case deign."
Does that mean it has some type of translucent case with lights behind it? |

It doesn't look translucent. Maybe the light comes out of the bottom. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

It sounds like a cool idea, but it smells like vaporware. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

It looks like they're just coming on line with this. The web page has links to a number of other products in similar cases, including a disk drive... but unfortunately only a 2.5" drive.
I wonder if it would be possible to get these guys and Griffin to get together and agree on a common API, so you could use the Powermate with their software or hook existing programs that use the Powermate into the drive. |

Wait, wait, what about the Drive.Mini? Just click on the link at the bottom? Also from Difusi. I read about an 2'5 drive, which would save a lot in soundproblems?? http://www.difusi.tv/hardware/drivemini/index.html
and there is more:
USB Ports
Ģ (ZFP design)
Ģ 5 Port USB Hub Controller with 5 channels downstream, 1 channel upstream.
Ģ Fully powered (Wall Adapter) individual ports each capable of 480 Mbps
Ģ 4 USB 2,0 Type A ports on the back & 1 USB 2.0 Type C port on face of the device
Ģ Plug and Play compatible
Ģ Hot Swapable interface
Ģ Backwards compatibility with USB 1.1 or later hardware devices.
Firewire 400 Ports
• (ZFP design)
Ģ 6 Port Firewire 400 Hub Controller with 5 channels downstream, 1 channel upstream.
Ģ Fully powered (Wall Adapter) individual ports each capable of 400 MBS
Ģ Allows you to connect DV camcorders, printers, scanners, digital cameras and other FireWire/1394 enabled devices to your computer
Ģ PC and Mac compatible
Ģ Plug and Play compatible,
Ģ Hot Swapable interface.
Ģ Compatibility: The IEEE-1394 interface specification, also known as Sony's i.LINK,. FireWire, IEEE-1394A or iLINK are all different names for the same high-speed digital technology.
Firewire Audio • Fully encoded Dolby 5.1 surround sound output
• S/PDIF (Sony Philips Digital Interface) Optical Audio I/O - allowing the transfer of audio to and from your Mac mini, without the conversion to and from an analog format, which could degrade the signal quality
+ all the stuff from the announced hub thingie!
And if that's not enough, they're coming with a hub and Dual Layer DVD+/- r combo too, it sounds to be good to be true

This is either vaporware or the greatest collection of Mac mini accessories ever put together. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

One look around at their website and this shouldn't come as a giant surprise. I think Blazer got it right back in August. It was nothing more than vaporware. |

Had my hopes up to high for that Bay mini, with the many FW and USB ports... _________________ ___________________Jim©
