Does anyone know if the Mac mini's Intel GMA950 graphics be capable of running the Windows Vista Aero interface? I am thinking about ordering a 1.66Ghz Mac mini with 2GB of RAM and would like to run Boot Camp.

According to Intel the GMA950 is "Ready for Microsoft Windows Vista", and if I'm not mistaken there are already beta drivers available.

First off, thank you for the reply.

That's where it gets a little confusing for me. Just because the Intel GMA950 supports Vista doesn't necessarily mean that it will be Aero compatible. I'm worried about this after reading that Apple tapped the allocated memory at 64MB instead of the full 224MB. Is that cap controlled by firmware or software?

Do you think it meets these requirements?

To enable Windows Aero, PC systems must meet the following criteria for graphics hardware, with either discrete or UMA solutions:

1. DirectX 9 class graphics hardware that supports WDDM and Pixel Shader 2.0

2. A minimum of 32 bits per pixel

3. Appropriate graphics memory for specified monitor resolutions expressed as total pixels (X dimension multiplied by Y dimension):

1. 64MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolution of 1,310,720 pixels (equivalent to 1280 x 1024) or less

2. 128MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 1,310,720 pixels and less than or equal to 2,304,000 pixels (equivalent to 1920 x 1200)

3. 256MB of graphics memory to support a single monitor at resolutions higher than 2,304,000 pixels

4. Graphics memory bandwidth, as assessed by Windows Vista’s built in system assessment tool WinSAT.EXE, of at least 1,800MB/s at following resolution:

1. Desktop PC: at a monitor resolution of 1,310,720 pixels (equivalent to 1280 x 1024)

2. Mobile PC: at the native resolution of built-in display

This guy seems to think it will:

But whatever machine he is using may not have the VRAM cap at 64 MB so who knows?

According to a user from the Apple forum this cap is not present when booting XP using Boot Camp:

Most likely the cap is set by the driver and therefore no issue when using Boot Camp. Maybe someone using Boot Camp can comment on this.
