Anyone use Boot Camp to install XP on their Mac mini Core Duo?
If so, can it play Windows games (like Far Cry or Half Life 2)? _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

Hello. Anyone up there. BootCamp lets you install WINDOWS XP on a partition of your hard drive. YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS. This means you can play WINDOWS GAMES!!!! Anyway, I have heard that at least games that run on Windows and Mac are faster under XP. _________________ The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.

I know you can play Windows games - duh!
I meant because of the Integrated Video Card on the Mac mini, that maybe certain games wouldn't play - ie. they require a dedicated GPU.
Anyone know how it plays games (like Far Cry, HL2)?
I guess I didn't word my original post very well ... _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

I play:
Half-Life 2/Counter Strike
City of Heroes/City of Villains
Star Wars Empire At War
No problems. The integrated video works fine as long as you have enough system RAM. It's a good video chipset, and it being integrated doesn't seem to harm the gaming at all.
In fact, even though Star Wars Empire At War requires a hardware T&L card, the GMA 950 handles it (being only software T&L). The CPU is beefy enough to make up the difference.
You may not get all effects turned on and get decent frame rates. I have to shut off shadows in Half-Life 2, for example. Still, the game looks great. Experiment and you'll find a sweet spot. |

That's terrific news! Thanks for your comments to this thread.
I may get a 17-inch iMac instead ... as long as I can sell my Sony LCD. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"

Cool, let me know when you get it ... and how it performs.
It will probably be another month or so before I order my iMac. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini / 1GB DDR / 80GB HD / Panasonic UJ-845-B 8X DL DVD±RW / 10.4 "Tiger"
