My update was 48MB and was installed in 4 minutes.
Everything went fine except my system booted twice after install.
Other than that, it had no effect on my GUI kits or iTunes skins. _________________

No Kidding? Mine did too. I found it a little odd.
Anyone got any ideas why? _________________ Andrew

That is normal with PPC based Macs. Read bullet 2.
"With the Mac OS X 10.4.6 system software update, PowerPC-based Macs will restart twice, instead of once, after the initial installation."

I always wondered if I should log out or restart after repairing permissions or just go on my way? |

Mac retard question, but what is repairing permissions exactly?
And mine is 163, if anyone cares. |

It corrects any errors in the permissions. To do that you need to open you folder and find and applications called Disk Utility here is the path :
Applications/utilities/Disk Utility
Once you open the application called Disk Utility, you choose your hard drive the one you named something or it may still be called Macintosh HD. Once you choose that, you can see the first fan saying FIRST AID. Almost at the bottom of the application window, you have something called Repair Disk Permissions.
It will fix things that are not in order, and once you do that you can install the update. After you have restarted the mini, you repeat this and that is all.
My update is also 163mb... Insane... But I don't dare to update till I know it does something GOOD, instead of screwing with my mini. So I have to wait to read the reports...
Good luck... _________________ "For I dipped into the future, far as human eye could see;

Not a "retard" question at all. Nostromo gave you a good answer.
If you're new to OSX, I recommend this great article from last year:

Very helpful start guide. _________________ "I never could get the hang of Thursdays."

You said it nostromo. After the huge debacle on my mini after the previous security update in March I am waiting a couple of weeks at least before I try to apply any new updates.
Over at macintouch.com there are reports that the second reboot is ude to an auto permission repair the update performs.

I installed the update on my Mini last night, repairing permissions before and after the installation. One positive effect I noticed immediately was on the permissions repair itself. Instead of spitting out a bunch of gobblety-gook about changing permissions on the various widgets, it didn't report anything at all other than the repair being complete. That's what it used to do and what I prefer. Before that, you would have to wade through all those junky messages to see if any document or program had faulty permissions. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT

Here's MacFixIt on the 10.4.6 update:
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060403142321217
I've always had good luck upgrading when I:
--Use the Combo Updater from Apple.com rather than the simple Software Update version
--Disable third-party haxies
--Repair permissions
--Reboot the Mac
--Install system upgrades
--Reboot again (remember that rebooting will often take much longer the first time after the upgrade, and PPC Minis will reboot twice)
--Repair permissions again (remember that the list of things repaired will often be different)
