Hi,
I got massiv file sharing problems with my new mini. I try to share my personal folder on the mini and access them from windows xp.
Personal sharing and window sharing is on, account is assigned for sharing....
The Samba-log displays strange conversion attempts

I sent a feedback to Apple support and wonder does anybody else have this kind of problems?

Same kind of shareing (Powerbook -> Windows XP) Works fine. |

I've got the same problem.
Trying to connect from XP, and entering my shortname and password for the Mac Mini account, nothing happens.
Sharing the other way works like a charm. |

I usually use FTP when all else fails ...
Filezilla is a good free FTP server (and client) for Windows. _________________

| FYI I am also having problems mapping the mini's drive on my XP box. The XP computer can share the mini's iTunes folder, but it seems to reject the login details for the account on the mini. |

| I'm experiencing exactly the same problems already mentioned. If anybody has a solution, please let us know. In the meantime I'll investigate it further... |

Alright, there is a temporary workaround for the problem. But you have to change the authentification settings on your XP/2k box...
Here is how to do that:
Start -> Run "secpol.msc"
In the tree open and click Security Settings -> Local Policy -> Security Options
Scroll the left pane down to 'Network Security: LAN manager authentication level'
Change this to 'Send NTLMv2 response only'
It works here. Please let me know, if that works for you too... |

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Erm, did I mention - Thank you!
I think this is the last step required for me to finally switch off my Windows box. I have all my photos hosted on my Mini now, but my wife needs access to them and she couldn't get at them from her Windows machine.
Okay, it's a work-around - but it works for me!
Brilliant, thank you very much indeed!
EDIT - for those of you like me who have just got this fixed thanks to evilJazz, you might find Sharepoints quite useful. Allows you to easily add other shared folders on your Mac for you Windows machines to talk to.
EDIT 2 - Oh, forgot to mention, for me the preference pane applet didn't work. I had to use the application version. Not too worried, but just thought I should mention it in case others just tried the preference pane version, had the same problem and gave it up as a waste of time. _________________ My Flickr |

Glad to hear it's working for both of you. Now, let's hope Apple will fix it ASAP.
Update: Forget my workaround. Just install the 10.4.6 update which fixes the Samba issues. |

i have not been able to access my new intel core duo mac mini from the windows network either. i can access windows from mac, and the g4 and the new mac mini can access each other but all 3 windows machines are locked out of the mac mini. i called apple support and spent a good hour on the phone with them and they are totally clueless that 10.4.5 is broken. i asked them if i could have 10.4.4 and they said it would not work on the mac mini and the only supported operating system is what originally shipped with it.
all i get is a repeating login box that says connecting to mac mini but the password never goes through and the shares never mount _________________ dumps4certs // CompTIA 220-801 Value Pack // Testking Cloudera CCA-332 Practice Test |
