Macpower & Tytech Technology has introduced the M9 Mac Mini Pod an external disk drive enclosure with a built in USB and Fire wire port replicator for the Apple Mac mini. The M9 has 3 USB 2.0, 3 Firewire ports and will support any 3.5" ATA 6 compatible hard drive and has an interactive cooling system with a heat sink and Auto Sensing Smart Fan. The M9 is powered by an external power adapter which should help with cooling as well. This announcement comes on the heels of the Micronet’s miniMate, another external hard disk and port extender for the Mac mini that begins shipping later this week. At this time we have no information on pricing or availability for the M9 Mac Mini Pod.

Pricing will make all the difference there.

3.5" drive are cheap. In fact, I've got a 160GB drive laying around that would go perfect in one of these if the price is right.

The miniMate is slick too, but if I could use the drive I already have... well, it'd be perfect.

How about a some sort of swappable slide in hard drive mount like you see on some laptops. Imagine all the DVD's you could steal..... I mean store!

I like the all silver back compared to the Mini Mates white panel, but I'm not crazy about the rocker switch.

Every once in a great while it happens: You have an experience with something that is well designed and very interesting and you say: WOW! It does not necessarily mean you want one but you say, WOW! That is really cool! Examples of this would be the new Mini Cooper and the Aibo (Sony's Entertainment Robot Dog).

I never wanted to own a new Mini Cooper or Aibo, but I really dig them because they are so cool looking…eye candy if you will. They just kind of make me smile.

Sometimes though, you have an experience with something where you love the way it looks and feels. You become intrigued, enamored and you know you have to have it—can’t live without it—but the thing also has a MAGICAL aspect to it.

the 80 gig one is nice, and for 140, id definitely go for that, id say what im gonna do is stick with the base 40 gig HD in the mini im gonna buy (save me $50 there) and spend that towards this http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/FWU2MS080GB2/

mind you its still gonna cost me $90 more after the saving of 50 bucks, but also, if i buy the wired keyboard and mouse and no bluetooth, there ya go..
id much rather use a wired mouse/keyboard now knowing ill have a few usb ports left over, heck, i might not even need to use a hub, that thing IS my hub
