Drag to disc and printers

I've been using my mini for a few days now. Pretty cool, but I find it hard to dig how OS X works. I guess it will get better as we get acquainted!

Problem 1:
I use CD-RW a lot for my job, start something at home, continue at work. I loved the "drag-to-disc" thing on Roxio with Windows. It is like using CDs as floppy discs.

I now have Roxio Toast platinium, and I can not write on my CD. In the Finder, it says "Non- allocatable space" and Roxio does not want to write on it.

Any ideas?

Problem 2:
I am networking with my girlfriend's PC (Win XP). I see her on the network, I can get files, but I don't see her printer, that is shared. Her PC does not see my mini either.

Did you turn on Windows sharing in System Preferences? That'll let XP see the mini.

The printer needs to be setup through the printer setup in System Preferences too.

I just found out that the printer (a "all-in-one" machine) is NOT compatible with OS X!!! It is a Lexmark X6170. On the Lexmark site, there is a list of OS X compatible products, and it is not on it. http://www.lexmark.com/US/products/info/mac/mac_home.html

Man, that's a downer.

Noboby uses CD-RW to carry files???

I can say that it is a pretty bad start for me and OS X. I mean, if I can't use my mini for my job as I used to with my old PC, it is like buying a very expensive CD player...

Just drag you files/folders to the blank CD in Finder and click burn. Are you trying to set up a multi-session CD?

To organize your files into a single session:

Place all of the files you wish to burn in the session into a single folder on your desktop
Click on Finder - Go - Utilities - Disk Utility
Click on Images - New Image from Folder
Follow the prompts to select the folder you wish to burn
Click on Image
Enter a name for the disk image and specify the location
Click on Save

To burn your files onto CD:

Open Disk Utility
Click on the Burn icon in the toolbar
Click once on your disk image you created
Click on Burn
In the Burn Disc dialog box, click on the blue triangle at the upper right of the window to expand the dialog box
Click on Leave disc appendable
Click on the Burn button

For each additional session you wish to add later:

Follow all steps above
Notice that in the last step, the button indicates Append in place of Burn
Click on Append

You'll see that each session is represented by an individual disc icon when the disc is inserted.

Yeah the printer support is definitely a pain. Did you try looking on the Cups site for additional drivers?
