|
|
| Has anyone noticed a improvement in performance when they have upgraded to 1 gig. I have not, the only noticeable difference is in some applications but no major system performance increase overall infact after running some memory intensive programs it seems sluggish. Is there a way to clear the memory or cache? or is a faster rpm hardrive the answer/ |

I noticed a huge difference in system performance with a 1GB in comparison to 256MB. If you are moving up from 512MB it may not be as noticeable. You can monitor your memory by going to Finder>Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor>System Memory or go to command line at type vm_stat to get an idea of what is going on. Are you getting a lot of beachballs? How many programs do you have open at a time?
A faster hard drive would help tons! _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Speed improvement will depend on how many open applications you have too. There's no gain if the system has enough free ram so that it isn't swapping stuff to the disk. _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

I worked with macmini for 4 weeks with 256, and really wasnt satisfied about its speed, i work frequently with excel, words, i movieHD, etc, and for all this programs i notice since last monday when i installed 1GB bank, a huuuge difference. So it might be depending on what you use, for me,..its worth the investment.....
Opening was horrible job to do.... (i used dutch cheese cutting knife) _________________ Macmini 1.4 1GB |

Agree 100%. It all about what has to be swapped to the mini's slow hard drive but even then he should see some major improvements with 1GB.

Sorry for the slow response I havent felt good.
I upgraded from 256
I do notice a difference running applications but I did not notice any speed when opening programs. I think I need a faster hard drive. I guess that is what Im looking for faster application starting. Because I noticed when I was at the apple store there mac mini was fast at opening applications. |

| What brand memory is it ? Is it new? There might be a problem with it. I've had bad memory before and it can slow things down! |

I noticed a huge difference after upgrading to a gig, but I had allready upgraded to a hitachi 7200rpm drive. It's amazing... garageband opens very fast now. Where it used to take about one and a half minutes for it to start, now it takes only about 15 seconds. I recommend upgrading to the 7200rpm drive. hitachi makes a 40gig drive that is a little cheaper than the 7K60. I think it is the 14R9200 or something close to that. I got mine for around 120 bucks from mwave.com.
Also I guess that mac minis tend to have problems with KVR Ram from kingston. supposedly apple says using that ram is a big no-no |

You should have bought a cheap "plamuurmes" from your local "bouwmarkt".

7300? guess you mean 7200.
Are there any 7200rpm lapop HD bigger than 60GB out there? Additional 20GB might not be enough.
Anyway, how do you clear cache? |
