Mine looks dim/dark but have not tried this.

"More Mac Mini owner reports on Analog Video (Adapter fit notes) - I've updated the page on Mac Mini analog video with a reader mail noting someone in an apple forum post said his DVI/VGA adapter wasn't fitting properly and trimming some pins resulted in better quality video.

"I was just reading the apple discussion thread about the dim video problems and one user said that he discovered that his vga adapter wouldn't seat properly in the dvi connector on the mini due to the pins on the dvi side of the adapter not fitting properly. He said he solved this by trimming the pins on the adapter's dvi side resulting in a good connection of the analog vga pins and better video quality.
Perhaps if this is the root of the dark video problem then all that is needed is a slight adjustment to the positioning of the dvi connector on the back of the mini to make it easier to seat the pins on the vga side...

Since DVI does not have the same issue with dim video it may very well be the adaptor. It's worth a try if your having the problem. I'm hooked up to a 19" KDS CRT and every thing looks ok.

Why don't you just call Apple and say send me another adapter if you think you current one is to blame.

I found this http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21629 this morning. I’m beginning to think this issue is going to snowball into a bigger problem for the mini if Apple doesn't nip it in the bud.

We at www.MacImPott.de have seen this problem some weeks ago and nobody listened - the the german computer magazin c´ t said the output is below VESA Standard and nobody listened. Now a lot macminis are sold and shipped and now the people are listening.

Maybe because the switchers see the big difference between their pc-vga-crt and the macmini dvi-vga -crt.

Hope that Apple will fix it at soon as possible.

btw my powerbook with a dvi/vga adapter makes the same awful picture on a crt. seems to be a bigger problem Wink

VESA standards are 700mV the mini's VGA output is 530mV. Apple has not commented on this anymore because it's a case of RTFM.

apple wont deal with it until a class action forces them to (like the ibook fiasco). until then they'll pretend it's user error.

i'm quite certain the apple engineers know by now that they goofed big time not QC'ing the VGA output.
