| Before I start putting those knives in a mac mini body: how far are we away from a 2nd generation mac mini and how could it look like? Anyone remember how long it took them to upgrade the iMac? |

If you recall the Rev a and Rev B imacs were essentially identical. (except to those of us who cracked them open and racked then) The rev A was introduced May 6, 1998. Both were Bondi blue and ran 233 MHZ.
The iMac 266 (which was not the Rev B) came out on January 5, 1999. |

So it's pretty much safe to guess that we will get new mac mini's
before the end of the year? |

| Macrumors Buyer's Guide is useful as well. You can see other models but there isn't enough data yet for the mini. |

| so what is the general mood around here? Buy now and put in 1 gig of RAM and a 7200 and you are pretty much where the next generation will be? |

Seeing as the 2 biggest complaints about the Mini are the Ram and the Video Graphics Card. I would think that both would get in a boost in the next gen Mini. The other thing that I would expect to see is a speed boost to 1.5 or 1.6 ghz. But as of late the revisions seem to be coming farther and farther apart so i wouldn't expect to see an updates of the Mini's hardware until the Jan/06 MacWorld!
Just my opinion! |

I still stand by my prediction that there will not be a significant change to the Mac mini until an Intel-based one comes out. (to clarify, by "significant change" I mean something that would require a change to the main board (CPU, video/vram, etc).) _________________ -=iMav=-

According to Engadget, new MacMini's are on the way within the next week or so! Prices include $499, $599, $699, which could just indicate that theyre finally rolling out that 1.58 ghtz processor (my guess). _________________ 1.25 Ghtz MacMini

| I think the jumpers for 1.58GHz and 16.7GHz are already on the board. Isn't that what the overclockers are using? |

Yep, the jumpers are on the board. It'd be cool if they upped the speeds to 1.58 and 1.67. That would make the Mini a much better contender, though the eMac is only at 1.42, so I don't know how much better they want to make the Mini than the eMac. They barely promote the eMac as it is, so if they make the Mini better, I don't see how they'd sell the thing ever. _________________ Computer Engineer
