how to clean a mouse?

well i did it in this case on the MIGHTY mouse (not the magic one which i found expensive and frustrating to use) and my mighty had something inside the ball that stopped responding to scrolling. so i had to unassembled the mouse to take the dirt... that outer ring is a pain to pop off! heres the basics for who ever it might concern - with pics! Wink

1) - pop off the inner grey & outer white rings from the bottom with a screw driver that you slide underneath the line of side buttons.
2) - pop off the lower body by releasing the 4 corners clips visible once you take out the rings... broke some plastic tooth on mine!

3) - CAREFUL HERE! slowly pull away the top palm body and underneath you will see 2 cords that are easy to release by popping off the black plastic clip.
4) - next bolt out the 3 crews around the trackball in order to dust off the dirt present around the hole of the upper palm body but specialy around the trackball base itself - damn cookies!

5) - since my directional function didnt respond well i looked into the laser beam mirror - that transparent circulant piece that reflects the light and give you the up-down / left-right 360ยบ direction... indeed it had a dirt residue diverting the beam light. just screw off the 3 bolts and slide backwards the motherboard in order the lift it and access the beam mirror.

Thanks for the info Soundzen.

I gave up with the mighty mouse after continually suffering with the scroll ball problem. The might mouse is an expensive piece of kit and Apple should have sorting these problems out. I gave up in the end after going through three mice (applecare cover) in less than a year. I never used the third one is still in the packaging, instead I bought a Logitech and its given me no trouble what so ever. the mighty mouse is a good mouse when it works but its just too much hassle to keep it working.

thanks! Razz

correct, apple didnt think the mices over... as long as its white and simple - but its stucks easily and fast!

annoying to have a non-responsive mouse and i know that in a few months i will have to repeat the operation which is nerve recking...

i might switch mouses also! im looking for a scroll-ball on top because im used to it with autocad at the office - which is a logitech also *pick below*.

Which 1 did you get?

thanks Bandit!

you would be suprised how Mr. Green your mouse can get.

6 months of sweat & oil from fingers or micro-dust from room air.

that is a great 20x zoom, isnt it?

Shocked I take them back to an Apple store & tell them I called Apple Care & they could not help me get it going & said bring it in for replacement.

Did this around two times a year, now i use the magic mouse. No more trips to Apple, Many trips to Lowe's for battery's

I've been using TrackBalls since System 7.
I was a professional photographer and
used "Photoshop" on my Mac II ci.
TrackBalls are definitely the way to go.
I've never liked mice (mouses?).
I now have severe arthritis and a trackball
is the only thing I can use for an extended
period of time. That Logitech is the one
I currently use. Sadly, they only seem to
last about a year. Must be made in China
like everything else that doesn't last.
If you use the Logitech,
go to their web site and download
their current driver. It installs in the
Preference Pane. With the Logitech
Preference you'll be able to attach
different functions to those extra
buttons.
