Another newbie question, sorry again if it's been asked before.

Is there a way to use Finder to view directories such as /var/ or /etc/ ?

I'm running the Apache webserver on my Mini and I'd like ready access to the access and error logs, but the only way I've seen so far is to use Terminal and Pico to view them.

Can I create an Alias (Which I believe is like a Windows shortcut correct?) to those files? I can't seem to dig deep enough in Finder to get down to that level.

Thanks in advance!
Matt

In the menu use Go, Go to Folder, and then type in /var (or whatever)

Hi JacobMarley,

I, too, use Apache webserver on my MacMini (developing highly interactive websites). However, I find it easier to use the console application (you can find it in the utilities folder) to view these log files.

Once the console application is open, you can navigate to different log-files (other then the console log) in two seperate ways. On relaunch will the console app reopen the logs that were open on quit, so if you view a particular file all the time, you don't have to do a lot of work when you want to view it.
You can add the console to the dock.

You are using a Mac, remember, so even these things shouldn't be hard.

You can also choose to change the location of the log-file in the httpd.conf file, so the log is placed where you can conveniently browse to using the Finder. I did a slightly different thing: I created a VirtualHost, basically to keep the logs for the sites I am working on seperated from one-another.

Working with Apache on MacOSX is great. (Make sure you have BBEdit [Lite])
