Hi all,

I've connected my Mac to my Sony 32D3000 via a DVI to HDMI lead, and am very happy with the picture results. I plan to get a separate sound system to complete the set-up, but in the meantime I would like to have audio sent to the TV itself. I presumed I'd be able to easily do this via a 3.5 mm RCA lead (I've got this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0013CL7O2), connected to the audio-out on my Mac and the two connectors next to the HDMI socket on the TV. It's the two above the "HDMI IN" in this image:

However, doing so gives me no sound through the TV. I've hunted through the options on the TV, but can't see an option to enable sound from an external source.

Can anyone with a similar Sony confirm what I'm doing wrong? I'm clearly missing something.

Thanks in advance!

This is quite similar to how I have my mini's audio output set up. It should work. Make sure you have the 3.5mm plugged in to the mini's headphone/optical out jack. Also, check your TV's audio set up menu to see that the audio output of its speakers aren't disabled or muted.

That's exactly what I thought - it should "just work". The 3.5mm jack is definitely plugged into the headphone socket (verified by the fact that the sound from the internal speaker stops when I connect it!).

The problem is that there seems to be no option on the TV's sound menus to control audio-in.

Same setup as me - so here are some thoughts:

a) Check with a set of headphoens that the output jack on the mini is actually working
b) Make sure that the HDMI cable is plugged into AV5 (the bottom HDMI plug) - this is the HDMI associated with the RCAs.

There is no sound setting required to enable sound on the TV - it's on all the time. Just as a thought - you don't have anything plugged into the optical out of the TV as I think that this disables the TV speakers?

Thanks a ton - it was this. For some reason I presumed both HDMI sockets were associated with the RCAs, but now I know!

Everything's working perfectly now.
