Hello-first post here, found this site a few days ago while starting to look for input for a new monitor for my mac mini.

My 13 month old (natch) 19-in LDC monitor (Proview), according to their tech help confirms "probable approaching monitor failure" and the flickering is accelerating, so I am hoping a few will jump in and suggest a replacement, assuming this thing dies fairly soon.

Most important-out the box compatibility. Second, probably 19-21 inch range, space and budget limitations, $300.00 tops. No gaming, use will be just general use with an emphasis on photo editing.
at which I am not a rank beginner, but would consider it miraculous if I ever master photo elements.

Just as important to me for suggestions as to what monitor to purchase, might also be what monitor to NOT purchase as well (besides Proview Mad )

Any input, speedily, will be appreciated!

Sandy

Your LCD monitor is dying after 13 months? Shocked Lord Lummy, I thought that they were supposed to last longer than that...

i'd save for an extra couple of weeks/months whatever and spend the extra $80 for this:

i have used dell monitors for a long time, and when it comes to price for quality, there is no match.

Dell's first 20" LCDs used the same panel as Apple's cinema displays, but for hundreds less, and the current crop, while still "ugly" are bearable, and come with a great array of ports.

~sigh~ me, too, Johnny, that's one reason I won't purchase another Proview. Also, my bro-in-law, had to replaced his Proview (they bought the same day I did) after 8 MONTHS, and Proview asked for 100. to open it up, additional $ for parts, and 30.00 shipping each way! The one year warranty was/is "limited." He dug their old 19 inch CRT out.

How on earth do these manufacturers expect to get repeat business? Evil or Very Mad

I just got a Samsung SyncMaster 226bw 22" Widescreen monitor, and I love it. I picked it up on sale at Office Depot for $259, and I also just saw it at Sam's Club for the same price. It has both DVI and VGA inputs, 2ms response time, and 3000:1 contrast ratio. From what I have read, Samsungs tend to be pretty dependable; it will at least probably last more than 8 months. Very Happy

Sandy,

Check out newegg.com, you can find quite a few decent LCDs under $300. There's about 7 pages and 27 22" monitors alone. I'm sure you can find something there, some even offer free shipping.

Good luck with your next purchase and welcome to the forum.

I'm on day 10 with the same monitor, I love it thus far, I got it mine for $279 at Office Depot, that was what it was marked. Still less than Best Buy's $359...
