So i enjoy testing security and networks from time to time and i decided to try tribler to download a 100% legal torrent file from ubuntu i only use legal torrents no illegal ones.

Downloaded no problem a day later i received a e-mail telling me i was busted for violating copyright claims.

Funny its a free torrent. For linux. A free operating system. So i was curious about what the heck was it doing in the background? It turns out as you are downloading your legal torrent file from a legal source tribler downloads random torrent files in the back ground and redistributes them to other people without your permission on there network. Basically you become a file sharing server without your knowledge.

I was Really mad at this because most of these files it was redistributing where mostly copyrighted movies lots of illegal stuff i thought wow if you want to get arrested without trying tribler will do it.

So stay away from tribler find a better source for legal torrent use on mac.

A week went buy and i sent a print out of the torrent i downloaded to my isp to prove its a legal torrent and the tribler was to blame.

There now investigating the issue so others don't get in trouble.

So you didnít know that when you torrent, you are a server as well as a client?
