Hi all,
How would I upgrade an old Mini (2006, Core2Duo 1.83Ghz) from Leopard 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6 to get another year out of it. I can't update Flash or run Skype on it anymore with 10.5.8. Thanks!

If you are determined to do the OS upgrade, you need to obtain Snow Leopard and then just apply/install it. A new Mini can wait until a better time if you can't swing it now.

but remember in september both apple and adobe have confirmed they will launch a new version of flash player and safari so you have only until sep.

i would recommend a new mini or even go online and buy a used one for temporary use your machine honestly is old enough its not worth upgrading

I bought my 2012 Mac mini used, because it was memory upgradeable, the 2014 is not memory upgradeable. Here is the oldest used Mac mini models I would consider.
I believe the 2009 (last model before the unibody) is Core 2 Duo and has DDR3 memory. For Yosemite, you really need 8 GB of Ram.
However, The oldest OS you should consider is Mavericks to make sure all the latest Apps run. Hope this helps.

I bought a macmini core solo on purpose because the graphics card does not change until the intel early 2009 as the memory speed is at 667MHz so why give more money of the materials I wanted to upgrade I had.
To upgrade a used core 2 duo T5600 (attention with the socket is M not P) and 4GB of memory 2X2 from owc everything in the tray issue I had a genuine apple 128GB
After upgrading the processor spent the upgraded firmware from netkas to become recognition memory in 4GB and then I put the memories ie start with his own example 1GB to me after upgrading putting others.
http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,874.msg15441.html#msg15441
Then I put the ssd I had passed the snow leopard ago and started the machine
To spend the lion had to write in PlatformSupport.plist file identification number mac mini I have Mac-F4208EC8

all those in the path of the System / / Library / CoreServices.
I put the cd with the lion and was clean installation using system tools.
After I spent MLPostFactor from http://www.osxhackers.com
and I no longer 10.8.4

Finish the job that I wanted to be fully operational and has no connection with the solo that had as the mononuclear on youtube he breaks the image now watch movies online without a problem
but also do not forget there is still a solution by removing the card's airport and putting a broadcom crystal hd
