Hi,

In the Finder I selected a 12Kb text file and created an alias of it. The alias was 98Kb!
An alias is basically only a pointer. Shouldn't it be 4Kb or so?
I tried with an image file which was 98Kb Its alias showed 340Kb
But a 3rd file, 1.9Mb, also .jpg, gave a 340Kb alias!

If anyone can explain this it will cure my curiosity.

Intel Mini, Snow leopard.

That's odd. It shouldn't be any larger than a disk sector.

I just tried it with a file on my desktop, and the source file is 28k, and the alias file is 164k!

I thought that an alias is only a link to the origina. Does it contain something else? How to explain a 2Mb alias!

I found a link that somewhat explains this size problem, appears it has a lot to do with icons.
There is also a method suggested for reducing the alias file size.
