We're replacing a 2006 Mac Pro with a new machine. Since the MP is, surprisingly, only worth a few hundred bucks I thought we could repurpose it as a home media NAS, mainly movies, but maybe music also. I'd like to access it from our Roku's and other Mac's.

One of the Mac's is a Mini set up as a HTPC. I'll be running Plex on that one.

How would I go about doing this? Simply turn things on in Sharing?
How would I point the Roku to the correct folder on the NAS?
I'd like to stay wired, ethernet, for less buffering, comments?

Thanks for any help.

Seems like overkill for a NAS.

Set it up with the Plex Media Server, and then set up the clients on the Roku and the mini.

I would check the Plex forums for information on configuring the Roku.

I'm a fan of wired networks, but I'm old fashioned.

There site says that Rivet's discontinued since 2011. May still try Plex server.
